# Start a translation

> Request translations for specific files and languages, then follow the resulting jobs.

Use **New Request** for one-off work or a saved automation for repeated translation. State the project, source files, and target locales explicitly so the request has a clear scope.

## Before you start

Upload the source files, configure target locales, and add any required [guideline, glossary, or translation memory](/platform/knowledge). Your role and project access must allow the requested actions. Generation also depends on workspace usage and AI configuration.

## Request one-off work

1. Open **New Request** under **Agents**.
2. Identify the project and exact files to translate.
3. Specify target locales and the resources the agent should use.
4. Review the request and any action confirmation shown in the conversation.
5. Follow the work in **My Jobs** or the project’s job list.

Example request:

Translate product.json in the Storefront project from en to de and fr.
Use the Storefront glossary and project guideline.
Keep placeholders unchanged and prepare the translations for human review.
```

Agent requests depend on the tools available in your workspace. If the request cannot find a file, confirm that upload has finished and that the selected project contains that path.

## Repeat this after uploads

Create a [Source upload automation](/platform/automation/create-automation), scoped to the project. Test it with a small file before using it for a large batch. An upload and a translation request are separate operations; avoid submitting a manual request for the same work when an automation already handles it.

## What completion means
